Choosing the Proper Sized Ball
FIFA has very specific rules about what sort of ball is appropriate in a soccer game. They require that the ball be between twenty seven and twenty eight inches around, and weigh fourteen to sixteen ounces. Of course the ball must be spherical and made of leather (other appropriate materials are also acceptable). They are even specific about the air pressure of the ball, and require that it be between eight and a half and fifteen point six pounds per square inch. While most of our clients are not purchasing this equipment for professional use, it is important to understand the standards.
For the purposes of our clients, the very first thing to consider when purchasing a new soccer ball is which size you are looking for. Our cheap soccer balls come in three sizes which have been approved for use in games. Because soccer is a sport played worldwide, these guidelines are an international standard.
- Size 3: A size three soccer ball measures twenty three to twenty four inches around, and weighs between eleven and twelve ounces. This ball is for our youngest and smallest players under the age of eight years old.
- Size 4: At between twelve and thirteen ounces, a size four ball measures twenty five to twenty six inches in circumference. The size four soccer ball is standard for players ages eight to twelve.
- Size 5: The international standard for all players twelve years and older - including professionals and adults - is the size five ball. It is twenty seven to twenty eight inches around and weighs fourteen to sixteen ounces. This is the size used in professional tournaments including the World Cup.

Soccer Balls Through History
The very first of the modern soccer balls were made from waterproof leather or plastic in Denmark by Select. They had thirty two panels, twelve of which being a basic pentagon, while the other twenty were hexagons. This idea has been adapted and altered by many companies throughout time. The 2006 World Cup ball was made from a fourteen panel idea, in which the balls were machine pressed to bond the panels, rather than the traditional use of stitching. Although this is the ball still used for the World Cup, many of the players claim that it is too hard on the goal keepers. The balls which we sell are closer to the original, made from high quality rubber and generally stitched with the hexagons and pentagons.
